Case Study
Substation Building and Civil Works
Client
: RailCorp / NJ Construction
Location
: Auburn, NSW
Project Type
: Structure - Substation Building and Civil Works
Duration
: 30 weeks
Scope of Work
:
Hannas were successfully awarded the Building and Civil works associated with the development of a new RailCorp Substation at Auburn. The project sees Hannas working in partnership with a high voltage electrical contractor to deliver the total package to RailCorp.
Hannas scope of work includes a large piled retaining wall with capping beam in close vicinity to the railway tracks. Hannas also installed large electrical pits near the tracks and a large storm water pipeline parallel to the tracks. Hannas excavated and installed footings, foundation walls and the slab for the substation. Hannas also installed a complex system of electrical conduits under the building and connections to external pits. The project also includes all building works, concrete and bitumen pavements, landscaping, and fencing. Hannas met all the stringent earthing requirements for all reinforcement and Structural steel incorporated in the project.
Hannas performed all works under the contract whilst maintaining RailCorp’s stringent safety and quality requirements. These safety requirements were successfully maintained even with the added complication of a 33Kva RailCorp power line over the building, for which Hannas had to implement strict controls when working in close vicinity, as it could not be shut down for long periods.
Hannas were able to deliver successful project outcomes by utilising the existing skill sets within the organisation. All employees on the project completed the Rail Industry Safety Induction course and are well experienced in working in and around Rail corridors.
